Just a nap
Just a nap

Life has a way of overwhelming us sometimes. We find our backs pressed against a hard wall. In such moments, maybe a good nap is all what is needed.

It was on a Sunday afternoon and we had just finished some powerful prayers in church. I sat in rest and peace as we finalized to go home. I was happy to have spent time in God’s presence and now what I wanted was to go home and rest before Monday. Monday! Monday! Monday! How we love you. Haha.

Just before we went out of church, I received a WhatsApp message, it was my lecturer, informing me that a reference he had sent for me to the university for a scholarship had not been delivered. My heart sank because the deadline was two days ago. I checked the screenshot he sent me and realized that he had missed a letter ‘t’. This is where you sob, but remember I was from a very powerful service and breaking down would just attract unnecessary attention.

I went home very fast because I wanted to be alone to take it all in.

I got home, cried my heart out, went on a food strike, felt sad that I had not been given a fighting chance for the scholarship. I had been eliminated even before the race begun. My low had preceded a high spiritually. I asked myself why I hadn’t reminded my lecturer to confirm the email, but wasn’t that disrespectful, if I trusted him enough to write me a letter of reference, why wouldn’t I trust him to get the email right. After so many questions and tears, I took a nap.

It was as though the nap was an escape. I woke up feeling better, grateful and I thanked the Lord that He had given me rest on this issue.

From this time, I never underestimate the power of a good nap.

Remember Elijah? He had faced of 450 Baal prophets and 400 groves prophets. They had called on Baal to hear them but no fire was forthcoming. Elijah even started mocking them and said, Cry aloud, for he is a god, either he is talking, or he is pursuing, or he is in a journey, or peradventure he sleepeth, and must be awaked.

God came down on Elijah’s altar. Later he slew the prophets of Baal in the brook Kishon. Then when he heard that Jezebel was after him, he went to the wilderness and asked God to take his life!

After a mighty move of God, he was scared of Jezebel and wanted to die. Very funny! Anyway, It’s interesting what happened, he slept. He slept then an Angel woke him up to eat. He then laid down again(slept again) and the Angel came again and told him to eat after which he went in strength of that meat 40 days and nights unto Horeb the mount of God.

Elijah, God’s prophet was in need of rest. Sometimes, all we need is rest. Learn to take a nap when you feel tired. When nothing makes sense, a nap is a good answer.

Don’t allow yourself to stay down for long though, nap, Arise and keep moving.

I continued to apply to different scholarships and got accepted to one. You can find ways on how to obtain a scholarship here https://brightersidehacks.com/how-to-obtain-a-scholarship-for-your-studies/
