Darkness is the partial or total absence of light
Is the Lord present in the midst of all the Darkness? Let’s take a walk back to the beginning of creation, both God and darkness were there from the beginning. The darkness was there but not in God, it never empowered him, He ruled over it. He called light into existence and divided it from darkness and named it day and night respectively.
Was God there in the midst of darkness in the beginning? Yes.
In 2020 when the first COVID-19 lock down happened in my country, we were already going through much as a family. With the public news of lock down came our private news of sickness, hospitalization and recuperation for over an estimated half an year for one of us.
This was not only a redefining period but one full of heartaches, headaches, upsets, emotional turbulence, tears, fears and revealing of stuff that filled me with anxiety to the core. A lot was happening all around and in me as well. I lost real gusto of the things that I would normally enjoy doing and I just let the tide carry me.
Nonetheless, In the midst of all this, I made one important prayer to God and it went something like this, ‘What I would want to experience most in this season is a deeper relationship with you God. I want to see and experience you like never before.’
You can call it what you wish, bravery, running away from what was going on or simply trying to find God. My desire was to see and experience God through it all. In the midst of the chaos.
Looking back, the one constant thing that pulled me/us through was God’s comforting presence. Right in the middle of all the darkness and pain my relationship with Him grew. Even with all the unpleasant things that were going on, I found my solace in God. One verse that God led me to in that season was,
John 1:4-5
In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
And the light shineth in darkness and the darkness comprehended it not.
It is in the darkest of all seasons that I felt without a doubt the embrace of God and His love all around me. The sense of doom around didn’t put out God’s light. In fact it amplified it the more because now there was a focal point.
From then, when I need encouragement, direction, strength and help, I look to Jesus because I now understand that when you draw near to God, He draws near to you too.
God is not absent in your darkness. He is rather in it. Even as the boat rocks in the rowdy storm, Christ is in it.
As you seek and find, remember the difference is in matters of the heart, are you seeking Him with all your heart?
Jeremiah 29 : 13
And you shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
Let’s try the deep end in our relationship with God this time and may 2021 be the year when our intimacy with Christ grows as we seek to love the Lord with all our hearts.
Quite encouraging. I love the courage to trust in God through the unknown.
Yes trusting in God and not relying on our own understanding.
